Demonstrate Character

It can be very powerful to share stories or examples of past projects in your project interview Q & A.  Two questions that often come up are:

“Tell us about a challenge you faced on a previous project and how you solved it.”
“Identify some of your lessons learned on a comparable project that will benefit this project.”

Everyone on the interview team should have examples for these questions.  They do not have to be the same examples for each team member.

When responding to these types of questions, the best example would be one in which you don’t point fingers at the designer, contractor or owner as the cause of the problem.  The ideal response would be one where there was something that was completely unforeseeable or an act of nature.  How you responded to the challenge makes you the hero, demonstrates character, and gives the owner assurance that you are a creative problem solver.
